Brampton, ON – The FOLD Foundation is thrilled to announce the FOLD Kids Book Fest, set from November 1 to 5, 2023. This hybrid event will provide a diverse and enriching experience for educators, children, and teens aged 0 to 16. The festival will span virtual and in-person sessions, promising literary and educational opportunities. Registration is now open.
What makes this festival truly unique is its dedication to celebrating diverse authors and storytellers, making it the first of its kind in Canada. Bestselling authors Angie Thomas and David Suzuki will make special appearances at the event.
Jael Richardson, Executive Director of the FOLD, shares her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “FOLD Kids Book Fest provides a space where parents and educators can encounter amazing voices that expose young readers to new people and places through the power of stories.”
A diverse range of in-person events will occur at the Gore Meadows Library and Community Centre in Brampton along with engaging live and pre-recorded virtual events accessible for up to a year with a board pass.
Some of the exciting in-person activities include “Come Read with Me: A Storytime Pajama Party” at various Brampton Library locations, “EarlyOn Music and Movement,” workshops such as “Making Comics with Keet Geniza” and “Baking Bread with Cristina Quintero” (registration required), and the “Teen Spoken Word Showcase”.
Virtual attendees can look forward to events like “The Illustrator Battle,” “Engaging Canadian History: Japanese Internment Camps,” “Activism for Young People,” and “Inuit Horror with Louise Flaherty & Jamesie Fournier”.
The FOLD Kids Book Fest 2022 saw an incredible turnout, with 1,400 educators and 20,000 students registering. Eight school boards purchased board passes to participate in the event, including the Peel District School Board, Dufferin-Peel District Catholic School Board, and more. These impressive statistics exemplify the event’s growing impact and its ability to inspire educators and young minds.
“We are glad that the vFairs event management platform is helping the FOLD Foundation to reach thousands of people across Canada and help attendees gain invaluable knowledge and a deeper appreciation for literature and storytelling,” said Muhammad Younas, vFairs CEO.
