The virtual conference will highlight ways in which living with diabetes can affect the mental health of patients, their families, and caregivers.
The second annual Diabetes + Mental Health Conference will take place on the 5th and 6th of May, 2023. The conference will be held virtually through the vFairs event platform and interested participants can register here.
The conference is for adults impacted by diabetes and diabetes healthcare providers. Two tracks will be offered throughout the conference weekend and tailored to both patients and diabetes providers. Breakout sessions will be held for both tracks, all focused on the intersection of diabetes and mental health.
Mental health is a normal part of life with diabetes, though it’s rarely addressed in conversations about diabetes management. The Diabetes + Mental Health Conference aims to provide education and discussion about this gap in care.
The agenda includes live webinars, focus groups, and fireside chats that will help improve education and awareness about the psychological components of living with diabetes. It also offers continuing education (CEU) credits for healthcare providers.
Dr. Mark Heyman, Adam Brown, and Mila Clark are scheduled to deliver three keynote addresses throughout the weekend. The entire faculty is composed of licensed professionals and people living with diabetes.
“Mental health is rarely included in conversations about diabetes management. Yet, everyone managing diabetes is impacted by it. We’re aiming to remove the false idea that diabetes is only a physical condition by educating about the psychological, emotional and social impacts of living with the condition,” said conference co-host, Sara Adams, LCSW-R.
“The healthcare industry can draw major benefits from virtual conferences like these. A platform like vFairs can help make healthcare information more accessible to all,” said Muhammad Younas, CEO of vFairs.
The conference is funded by a combination of sponsorship support and participant ticket fees. Sponsors include the following diabetes-focused companies: Dexcom, Melrose Clinic, Center for Change, The Diabetes Link, Diabetes Training Camp, SkirtMyPump, American Diabetes Association, Thrivable, and Medtronic.
This is the only conference of its kind and is happening for the second time after a successful conference in May 2022. More information about the agenda and registrations can be found here.
